ABIGAILS PARTY AT TOPSHOP
I am slightly obsessed with the 70’s, yes this is true. So much so that my house has a very 70’s vibe with brown and gold flock wallpaper, genuine 70’s ornaments and a real retro feel about the place. Its all thanks to my childhood (yes I’m that old) and ebay.
Last year I even had a party and the theme was ‘Abigail’s Party’. My inspiration was taken from the Mike Leigh play, which was written in 1977 and televised. It’s a very funny suburban situation comedy of manners and satire, which was based on the role of the new middle classes that emerged in the 70’s. So think Pawn cocktails, hostess trolleys and Babysham. It even starred Alison Steadman, who is now best known for playing Pamalllllllaaaaa in Gavin and Stacy.
But what’s all this got to do with Topshop and Fashion I hear you ask? Well I’ll tell you. As we all know the 70’s revival is still huge at the moment, and still very evident on the spring/summer 2017 catwalk, and has been for a while now, so Topshop have brought out an Abigail’s Party collection, which I love.
It’s all about wide legged trousers, jumpsuits, platform shoes and billowing sleeves. With plunging necklines, clashing colours and patterns, in mauve and yellow. Loads of chiffon, chunky oversized sunglasses, lots of denim and big brimmed floppy hats to top it off with. They have designed some really cool and glamorous separates. It may not be to everyone’s taste but I think they have some really nice statement pieces.
So get your hair blow dried, stick some Dennis Roussos on the turntable and enjoy!
