CLASSIC ALEXA – A COLLABORATION WITH MADEWELL
Victoria Jackson, Celebrity Columnist
In the midst of New York fashion Week, cool kid on the block Alexa Chung unveiled her designer collection with Madewell, the sister brand to American retailer J Crew.
The fashion pack flocked to see the collection, which included a mix of denim shirts, bretton style tops and short sixties style shift dresses. Basically, Alexa’s dream wardrobe!
Alexa’s classic urban style is worked into the collection, making this the perfect New York meets London capsule wardrobe. Friends were at hand with Poppy Delevigne and Pixie Geldof modelling, whilst Daisy Lowe worked the crowd and DJ Tennessee Thomas brought the party to the Bowery Hotel Terrace in NYC.
The scene was typical Alexa, bicycles placed against old wooden benches and flowers strategically positioned. The models were kept natural, with loose hair, rosey blush and and nude lips. No catwalk was needed, this collection was simply a come-look and see with the audience having the chance to have a face to face look at the garments.
The designer rocked some gorgeous velvet high-waisted shorts, cream silk shirt and a thin leopard print belt, something that was seen all over the catwalk throughout NYFW.
The collection will be available from Madewell stores and hopefully online by the end of the season. Standout pieces include a cream chiffon shirt dress, blue long-line wool coatigan and brown lace-up brogues. Grey socks worn with sandals were typical Chung, with the designer laughing saying: “Sorry about that, the grey socks worn by many of the models were from the “school boy department” at English retailer John Lewis.”
