In fact, if women were presented with a dilemma where they could use only a foundation or concealer, they will probably choose the concealer over the foundation as it has so much to offer.
While a concealer is a great makeup product, women should know how to use it properly. We have provided some useful tips on just that topic.
How to apply a concealer?
The first rule of applying concealer is to always apply it before applying a foundation. Some women make the mistake of applying foundation before applying the concealer which can result in an uneven skin tone, at least in most cases. If you want, you can completely skip out on the foundation and just go with the concealer if you wish.
Wash face before you apply a concealer
The next most important thing that you have to remember about wearing a concealer is that you must wash your face with a cleanser before applying the concealer. Cleansing will open up your pores and allow your skin to breathe. Applying concealer over unwashed skin can really suffocate the skin pores.
It is especially important that you cleanse your face if you have oily skin. When you have particularly problematic oily skin that you need to use a concealer on, we would even recommend that you use a toner along with the cleanser, to really allow the concealer to stick on and provide you with a flawless look for the entire day.
Actually applying the concealer
Depending on where you are applying the concealer, you can use the applicator that came with the concealer or you can use a Q-tip or just your fingers. Applicators and Q-tips are generally good for isolated spots that you want to cover up. A finger is more useful when you want to conceal a general area in whole.
When applying a concealer to the under eye area, use swift strokes of your finger to apply the product. Using swift strokes will mean that you will not smudge the concealer on the delicate layer of skin under your eyes.
Choosing the right type of concealer
As you might already know, the market has several types of concealer. There are under eye concealers, concealers for acne spots and even tinted concealers for unique skin tones. It is not uncommon for some women to use more than one type of concealer. As an example, they might use a certain brand of concealer on their under eye skin and another brand to cover up acne scars or inflammations.
The type of concealer that you choose will also depend on the type of skin that you have. If you happen to have oily skin, a stick concealer will work fine. If you have dry or normal skin, a liquid concealer will work fine.
In general, choose a concealer shade that is the same as your skin’s complexion. If you can find such a shade, choose a shade that is ever so slightly lighter than your skin’s natural complexion.
