Let’s Get Together: Fashion Collaborations
So, disappointingly, the amazing collaboration that was Jil Sander and Uniqlo is now coming to an end. After 3 lovely long years of smart-casual staples, the minimalism guru and mass-market giant have announced that the A/W 2017 collection will be the last. Make sure you snap up a piece of high street history while you can!
Fortunately, as one door closes, another one opens. The newest designer high street pairing announced a couple of days ago is none other than Donatella Versace for H & M. The creative director didn’t want to give too much away on the collection, however personally modelled one particularly sexy leather dress, embroidered with gold studs and detail.
Expect the same sort of offerings as the designer label itself- lots of leather, gold, bold colours, sequins and of course, very sexy fits- body con styles and slinky maxis with slits up the thigh. Donatella claims she is very excited for the “opportunity to show to a very big audience that is H&M fans”, but wants to keep as much of it as a surprise for the launch in November. After the beautiful collaboration with Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz last year, she most certainly has a lot to measure up to, but from the sneak previews, the pieces most definitely look set to be winners.
That’s not the only one we can look forward to either. Christian Lacroix is working his magic over Spanish high-street brand, Desigual. The French couture genius, known for his opulent, costume-influenced designs is blessing the brand with his trademark exquisite embellishments and rich bold colours. The fash-pack are also currently going absolutely nuts for designer, Veronique Branquinho’s mix up with local lingerie brand, Marie Jo L’Aventure. Once you’ve seen the pictures, you can totally see why. The pieces are subtly seductive in a 1940’s, luxury vixen kind of way: made from pretty tulle and satin in dark shades including a gorgeous emerald green. The styles are “demi-corps” bras with a hint of transparency, high waist briefs and elegant yet frills-free bodies. If it had evaporated somewhat, my love and faith in good underwear has now been restored.
Keep an eye on what Topshop are planning too, as now Vogue’s style-Queen Kate Phelan is directing, some incredible collaborations are well on the way, and if you find yourself in the States at some point, pop to Target, as Missoni is working with the store on a BIG level. The collection, due to launch on 13th September, consists of over 400 different pieces (their most yet), all in typical Missoni style- swirly prints and crazy zig-zag patterns- fit enough for any Bohemianesque Winter.
Oh and one more thing. For a true piece of British heritage, Alice Temperley will be setting her hippy hands on a china set for the ultimate Tea Gods, Twinings. The designer has already created an exclusive scarf in celebration of their newly improved Earl Grey tea, and is planning on taking her designs further. The scarf is lovely, but oh boy am I anticipating this tea set…
